TAKE MY LIFE.

I was listening to this song sung by Chris Tomlin and Christy Nockles while driving home from the city today. It really moved me.

I'd like you to sit and read these words with your hands closed on your lap!!!Read them slowly.

Take my life and let it be consecrated Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice and let me sing always, only for my king.
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee.
Take my silver and my gold not a might would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use every power as you choose.

::Chorus::
Here am I, all of me.
Take my life, it's all for thee.

Take my will and make it Thine it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord I pour at your feet its treasure store
Take myself and I will be ever, only all for thee,
Take myself and I will be ever, only all for thee.

Here am I, All of me.
Take my life, It's all for thee.

Francis Havergal. Chorus Chris Tomlin.

Now re-read the words and as you do I want you to ask the Lord Jesus what area of your life He wants you to surrender to Him. When you get to the part that He is promting you to surrender, open your hands as an act of surrender and prayerfully read the words of the song to Him.

Lord Jesus, you have given us so much. Our life and our very breath comes from You. We don't want to hold any area of this precious life back from you. So here I sit with open hands surrendering what you desire of me today. Take me and use me to bring You glory. Amen.

oh Gail what a great post! I LOVE that song too! Thanks for posting it and suggesting we use it in praying. What a wonderful prayer guide you have posted. Thank you so much :)

want to hear a little story about this song and how God has a sense of humor - You know when I first heard this song it was just a video clip from a passion that i ran across somewhere; the song kept coming to my mind though it was so beautiful but I wanted to hear it while I was driving, you know? it kept coming to my mind and I think I had to keep watching it on my computer to hear it...So I was listening to it one weekend and I'm like 'Lord, You know this song should really be on a cd - it is sooo good. You really need to have them put this song on a cd, dont You think Lord?' The very next day I was out running errands and I was not planning on going to the Christian bookstore but as I passed it I remembered that I had a return to make there and I did have the merchandise in the back seat. So I pulled in, I was in a hurry and just wanted to return my stuff. The clerk asked do you want to look around and see if there is something else you want? I wanted to say no, because I was in a hurry with lots of errands to run ...but I felt this prompting to go back to the music part of the store and just look. Honestly I kind of felt like a dork and was a little annoyed with myself for feeling I should go back there when I really didnt have time to be window shopping... but I went back there to the music area... and as I walked back in there, guess what song just started to play? Take My Life. I had to laugh; I felt like God was saying - it's already on a cd you silly and here it is! :) So I then discovered the Hymns cd. Does God have a sense of humor or what? heehee.

thanks for posting this special song and thoughtful prayer guide

    Hi, Gail!

Thanks for dropping by my blog and voicing your support. I always find it interesting how like-minded we evangelical christians can be, right down to our taste in music!

I know the world thinks that we're all over the place in our beliefs and doctrines, but it's nice to see again that it's simply not true.

This is a great song, by the way, from an old hymn that I've sung in church many times. I don't know who wrote the original, but I'm sure that Google can answer the question for all of us.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

    Blessings in Christ!

Great thoughts here, Gail. I needed to take time for this today. It reminded me of another old song that I wish someone would remix for us. It is "Take Time To Be Holy".

    Blessings,

Gail...a lovely and timely post. Thank you for encouraging me to start my day in the posture of surrender.

And I just feel led to say that the authority of scripture is complete. Whether we choose to submit to that authority is another matter altogether. But our reluctance to submit does not weaken the inherant truth of God's Word. We cannot pick and choose which parts to believe and which to cast aside in order to justify our defiance.

May God's grace and peace be tangible in your life today, Gail, and in the lives of all who read your blog.

P.S. Did you get my email? :)

Hi Gail! Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately I didn't get my video to Passion, I couldn't get the stuff that I filmed at soulfest on my computer, and the time was too short to figure out how I could get it on the computer...So I couldn't make my video, unfortunately! I was bummed but hopefully there will be another time that I can do it, I might make one in the end, but I needed those video captures from Chris sooo bad to make the video, I had the idea and stuff but I just don't have the right equipment. But thanks for your interest! How are you doing? And how's your son?? Lately I've been listening to Hillsong united a lot, Have you ever been to the Hillsong church? Much love, Jacky

Gail--I love that song. It's an old hymn by Francis Havergal. We just did the Chris/Christy version in church a few weeks ago, with my friend Bob as Chris,l and me (doing a very lame job imitating) as Christy. It is just so powerful and meaningful to me. It is my prayer to Him every day--Take my life, Lord, every part.

I love this hymn! I'm so glad to see the modern artists adapting hymns. I'd never heard Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, but then one day it was going through my head so I called Higgie and said, what is this? 'Course she knew right off! She said Crowder did a version of it, and I must have heard that somewhere for the melody to stick in my head like that. But now I sing it all the time!
