Some Thoughts on Colossians.
I was listening to a C.D of Louie Giglio speaking while I was on the way to the doctors yesterday. He was talking from Colossians ch 1 and then I watched Francis Chan last night online and he spoke from the same chapter!!! I love Colossians anyway. It's my favourite book in the Bible. It speaks of the supremacy of Christ. It makes me go "Wow".
Now what struck me from Louie's talk was what he said from verse 14. "We have redemption ,the forgiveness of sins ." Now I have purposely italicised have and s in sins as thats what Louie was emphasising. ( He had five points but I've picked out two. )Louie was saying that we don't need to keep asking for forgiveness when we sin . We already have that through Jesus taking all the sins of the world upon Himself on the cross. When the Holy Spirit convicts us that what we have done is sin then we need to confess that to God, agreeing with Him that what we have done is sin and repent, that is turn away form the sin. Also its not just one sin thats been forgiven. Its all our sins. So were are forgiven from all our sins once and for all. What a great message !!!
From Francis Chan's message I was most impacted by verse 9 . " Asking God to fill you with all knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. "He asked "do we really want to know God's will for us today, tomorrow or next year or will that be too scary??" I think that is a very good point to ponder as God's will may be very, very different from my agenda. It may mean that I need to open my hands and surrender to God what I am still clinging to as mine and not giving everything over to Him. ( Thats a bit of a joke really as everything I have comes from Him anyway )
So in finishing I'll keep with Colossians and pray for all my blog readers :-
"That you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being stengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in His kingdom of light."

Francis Chan's message was a real kick up the backside to me.
Definitely worth the listen!

Great post, Gail. My baptism verses were taken from Colossians so it's always had place in my heart. But I love that you have shared a special message that, even if we know the bible, is easy to miss or even dismiss as being applicable to ourselves personally.
Thank you for this post.

Hello Gail, it's Karen here. Thanks for popping by. Yes everything I am writing about my Great Grandmother is from family documents, information and research which has taken for ever (started in 1994 and you never finish!), all this with some poetic licence assuming I knew how she felt and the day to day parts of her life. How are you? I'm feeling so burned out at the moment - would value prayers.

Thanks for your prayers Gail. How is your health doing by the way? You really do have a heart of a worshipper. I'm on to Philippians on my Bible reading, nearly on to Colossions, so I will print this out for when I have a read.

I am here by way of Karen. We seem to both be a ham sandwich.
I really enjoyed this post.
Yesterday my pastor talked about the blood and how it gave us the right to go boldly before the throne.
I like the idea of throwing this in with that message.
I can't feel unworthy to go before the throne--because I have been forgiven.
Thanks for the reminder.
Good post.

Hi Gail!
thanks so much for that great write up on what you've been hearing on Colossians lately.
What great stuff!
I loved what you shared from Louie's:
"We already have that through Jesus taking ALL the sins of the world upon Himself on the cross. What we need to do is to confess to Him and repent. Also its not just one sin thats been forgiven its all our sinS.So were are forgiven from all our sinS once and for all" I have heard him say that before and it is one I need to be reminded of.
and thanks for sharing from Francis - his emphasis on "do we really want to know God's will for us today, tomorrow or next year or will that be too scary??" well.... I dont know if it would be scary.... that kind of depends on what His will is.... there are some things I think I'd just like to know already, but Francis is probably right, it would blow our minds to know everything before His timing.
And thank you for leaving us with that verse and emphasizing "That you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being stengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father who has qualified YOU to share in the inheritance of the saints in His kingdom of light."
so very encouraging -
thanks so much Blue :)
Blessings~
Kimmer :)

Kimmer , the scary part for me is when Francis says that God's will is to love Him ... and our neighbour as ouselves. He challenges us. Are we actually at a stage where we can buy something for $40 for ouselves and then give some poor person $40 dollars ? Thats loving our neighbour as ourselves. His church gives way the same amount as they spend on themselves. That inspires me.
